Equity-Centered AI Products

Building AI solutions with, not just for, excluded communities—so tech works for everyone.

When AI amplifies bias in systems, we have to rethink how we build. I’m thinking of an equity-centered user research practice that designs with, not just for, underrepresented communities. By co-designing AI-powered solutions alongside those most impacted, we uncover insights that lead to more just, inclusive services across public and private sectors.

Check out the video below, where I illustrate what I mean.

I want to continue scaling a trauma-informed approach, community-rooted research practice to co-design AI solutions with historically excluded communities, not just for them. I believe that with this formula and the right backing, we’ll be ready to grow a replicable tech model that truly works for everyone.

My goal is to do research and design practice that puts equity at the center of how we build AI from the very beginning.

Here’s a roadmap on how I would achieve this (in case you and your organization would like to do the same):

  • Phase I: Focus on co-designing with immigrant and BIPOC communities to surface real-world use cases and ethical risks in AI-powered public services.

  • Phase II: Plan to translate those insights into toolkits, pilot partnerships, and training programs for public and private sector teams.

  • Phase III: Aim to scale this into a replicable model for inclusive AI research that can guide product development and policy.

With my experience, skills, and mission-aligned motivation, I can help accelerate this vision, sharpen strategy, and ensure that those most impacted by AI are shaping its future from the start.
